In 2019, creators Mara Halpern and Daphne Eleftheriadou made the decision to replace Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues at Berkeley High School for the first time in 19 years with the new, more inclusive Our Monologues. The hope is to create a platform for a collection of stories gathered from our community that go untold. Our goal is to continue to develop a show that emphasizes the value of talking about what goes on here. In our experience, the act of talking and listening is the best way to heal and move forward. The purpose of the show is to provide that space for everyone involved while celebrating stories that are minimized in our society.

These stories will be performed by Berkeley High School students in the Spring of 2024, focusing on the intersections of identity, trauma, sexuality, race, gender, joy, resistance, and other topics that are covered by the chosen submissions. We intend to diversify the voices that are heard on campus to reflect our community as a whole.

On the page, “Share your Story,” we strongly encourage anyone and everyone to submit for a chance to have their story told, regardless of their connection to Berkeley High School or their inclination to perform!  We expect to have some monologues performed by the writers, while anonymous stories will be performed by people who audition without having submitted a story.
